What is Forest Therapy?

Forest therapy/forest bath is partly based on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku. Through a guided experience in the forest or elsewhere in nature, it promotes health, well-being and a deeper connection with oneself and the rest of nature. Many (and increasingly frequent) research and the experiences of participants on guided forest therapy/baths around the world confirm its positive effects on people’s health and well-being.

The experience is an easy and slow two- to three-hour walk with a certified guide, where through activities to open and awaken the senses, with an emphasis on the connection with nature, you calm your thoughts and relax and deepen your relationship with nature and yourself.

Guided forest therapy/bath is performed in small groups (can also be individual) and is most effective as a practice, but it is also suitable as a one-time experience. It is a completely natural method; simple, but extremely effective, the right answer for the modern people who are looking for a balance of body, mind and spirit and that is why it is also a global trend.

Scientifically proven positive effects of forest therapy/baths on humans:

  • lowering blood pressure and heart rate
  • lowering cortisol levels, resulting in less stress, a lower risk of heart disease, and a reduction in anxiety, depression, and weight problems
  • improving memory and concentration
  • boosting the immune system
  • improving parasympathetic nervous activity, which also leads to better sleep
  • improving general well-being
  • improving attention, focus and creativity

In guided forest therapy/bath, the guide is not a therapist; the therapist is the forest (nature) and the guide opens the door.
